Hello, everyone! Let’s dive right in.
I looked into the NaNoWriMo scandal(s) again. Apparently, they are being criticized for more than one thing. This time, I also read their official website. Obviously, the statement they published paints themselves in a better light than news outlets or disgruntled writers. They offered general reasons for why things messed up so much, and request we “have fun and focus on the writing” and give them “space to do the work.”
That is basically what I was doing. I’m willing to continue with this ‘wait and see’ course for now. Like I said in June, none of this detracted from the benefits or groups I found through them.
So! For November’s writing event: I will pick a single project and attempt to complete a 50K word draft of it, just like the original challenge says. However, I will also make sure several other works-in-progress are lined up. That way, if I choose poorly again and need to branch out to meet my word count, they will be ready. Last year’s main project made amazing progress, both during the event and after it, despite – and maybe because of – not getting done then.
I can tell I will be excited soon. There’s a month and a half left before the National Novel Writing Month begins – and only one more post here between now and then. It feels both close and far. That is good; close means I am motivated to get ready, far means enough time in which to do everything. Keeping busy, especially in preparation for it, feels less like waiting.
