I’m not doing a Summer writing camp.

It has been a crazy Summer so far. We’ve had a couple of health scares with an elderly relative, a meet-up with other relatives from out of town, arranged some repairs to our house, and are partway through preparations needed before the workers are supposed to come.

With everything that is going on, I have not made time to come up with a new system for quickly capturing random bits of inspiration. This in turn means that I have new story notes on top of the previous backlog. My pile is still way smaller that it was; I simply need to pick up that ball again soon.

And it is not just any notes; I have also gained brand new ideas. At one point, the entire concepts for one long story, one short story, and one fan fiction were in my messy pile. Parts of them still are. I’m afraid I am not acting like writing is my highest priority at the moment. “Let each part of your business have its time,” Benjamin Franklin wrote, and that includes both my family and my novels.

I am grateful for this website. My dream of a writing career can easily get ‘out of sight, out of mind’ when other things get busy. But, every month, the dates 14-18 arrive and remind me I have a professional obligation. I promised both of us. I promised myself I would post something today; and to you, no matter when you read this, I have the obligation to make sure everything you read has a uniform ’18’ in the ‘date posted’ line.

Thanks for helping.

  1. That is so cool that you have a way to remember the effective balance between work and home. It is also really good that you aren’t letting anything get in the way of your dreams! Keep getting it!
